Miguel Caro's wiki
Welcome to Miguel Caro's wiki page!
This site is under constant development and very rarely anything is finished. If you don't find what you're looking for or have questions, try contacting me directly.
I am a joint postdoctoral researcher between Prof. Tomi Laurila's group in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation (School of Electrical Engineering) and Prof. Tapio Ala-Nissilä's group at the Centre of Excellence in Computational Nanoscience (COMP), both at Aalto University, Finland. Among other things, I am working on modeling electrochemical detection of biological molecules on the surface of carbon-based devices by means of quantum-mechanical ab initio simulations.
I obtained my PhD on solid-state physics in the Photonics Theory Group at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland, under the supervision of Prof. Eoin O'Reilly. The topic of my thesis was semiconductor science, specifically the theory of nitride materials, such as GaN or InGaN. See the section What I do for a more specific outline of my research activities.
About this site
This site is currently running on a small server in my home. It contains some professional and personal information. There are as well a few little works or projects mostly concerning computer stuff or small, non work-related, scientific articles.
